Unique Expertise

In my 8 years of experience in the areas of ICT, IP, Personal Data Protection, Media and Entertainment Law, I have dealt with the issues from various points of view: as an Associate Lawyer at the top 2 international law firms in ICT/IP both in Italy and in Europe, an Italian Legal Counsel on full-time secondment at the world’s No.1 company in mobile entertainment, and a Researcher at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society in the Netherlands.
This extensive experience has enabled me to discern substantial differences pertaining to each environment and to make critical analysis in order to provide pragmatic solutions. With a broad range of experiences under my belt, I am capable of effectively tailoring my activities, communications and outputs based on the clients’ needs and maximising the value of my assistance to the clients.
I advise multinational companies on legal issues related to data protection, IT contracts, e-health, e-commerce, cloud computing, Web 2.0 Service Providers’ liability, Internet content providers’ liability, online gambling, online gaming, e-signatures, digital retention of documents, and general IP matters. Additionally, I advise celebrities on privacy and copyright issues. I have developed considerable expertise in the following industries: communications, media, entertainment, IT, health care, fashion, and financial services.
I also hold positions as Research Associate at both the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) and the Tilburg Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies and Conflict Resolution Systems (TISCO) at Tilburg University (the Netherlands); Lecturer at the same university of the Master’s course “Liability of Web 2.0 Service Providers” that I personally devised; and Assistant to the chair of Internet Law (Diritto di Internet) at the University of Bologna (Italy).
I am: Board of Directors’ Member of the Italian Institute for Privacy (IIP); Policy & Advisory Scientific Committee’ Member of the European Privacy Association (EPA); Associate Member of the American Bar Association (ABA); Member of the International Association of IT Lawyers (IAITL); Member of the Independent European Association for e-Business (EEMA); and Member of the Journal of Legal Technology Risk Management (LTRM).
Moreover, I am constantly involved in International Projects concerning
ICT: e.g.,

- GovCloud (European Network and Information Security Agency - ENISA)
- Cloud Computing Risk Assessment (European Network and Information Security Agency - ENISA);
- Law Applicable to Non-Contractual Obligations Arising out of Violations of Privacy and Rights Relating to Personality (European Commission); and
- Measures to Increase Trust and Confidence of Consumers in the Information Society (European Commission).
I am the author of the book: Trustmarks in E-commerce: The Value of Web Seals and the Liability of their Providers – the first comprehensive study on quality certification for websites. Furthermore, I have published articles on a number of occasions on the subjects of Web 2.0 Service providers’ liability, cloud computing, identity management, privacy and data protection. I have also had several speaking engagements at international conferences on these matters.
In 2002 I obtained my Law degree with distinction from the University of Bologna (Italy). In 2008 I earned my Ph.D. from Tilburg University (the Netherlands) defending a thesis on Comparative ICT Law titled: Trustmarks: Third-Party Liability of Trustmarks Organisations in Europe.
