On 24 January 2018 the European Commission  published a Communication to the European Parliament and the Council Stronger protection, new opportunities – Commission guidance on the direct application of the General Data Protection Regulation as of 25 May 2018.

The Communication:

1. details the opportunities new European data protection legislation will provide
2. explains what the EC and local DPAs are doing in order to prepare for the regulation
3. establishes measures the Commission will take in the coming months.

An online toolkit has also been prepared by the Commission to aid stakeholders in their preparation for the complete application of the General Data Protection Regulation.
