Today, 25 July 2019, the European Commission and the European Parliament published a Communication outlining the state of data protection in the EU.
The document touches on consistent implementation of the GDPR, how the new governance system is working, and the impact that it has had, also in a global level, in terms of citizens and the convergence of data protection laws.
Implementation: Greece, Portugal and Slovenia are the only countries to not have fully adopted the GDPR into their national law.
Enforcement: local DPAs are seeing the benefits of the GDPR. Fines have been proportionate.
EDPB: the Board is operational and nearly 20 sets of guidelines have been adopted.
Culture: an EU data protection culture is being developed.
